PubCon Day 1 – 2nd Set of Sessions – SEO, Bid Mgmt, Brand/Reputation Mgmt

online-brand-managementThe next set of sessions at PubCon South covered SEO LandscapeLarge Scale Bid Management and Brand & Reputation Management.

Since I had just settled in, I stayed in Salon C for Brand & Reputation Management.

Krista Neher rocked the house and I sent a tweet about it.  Quote from Krista “Leverage what you can and do one thing really well”.  She also mentioned Chatterguard.

Tony Wright also rocked it and I sent a tweet about him (and thanks to fellow tweeters, I was able to find Tony on twitter.)

Tony focused on a proactive approach for companies to take regarding crisis management, such as internal communications and policies.  He cautioned that companies should deal with crisis with honesty & accountability.  He also mentioned crisis evaluation and communication planning.

Rhea from Outspoken Media, who got a tweet shout out from me, said that being engaged with your brand management can help with employment opportunities, attracting new clients and is a reflection of a company.  She suggested tracking tools to help with management, such as BacktypeYackTrackGoogle Alerts, and Twitter Search.

As far as ranking and building your social equity, Rhea also said to make sure to fill out your “Other” links in LinkedIn (don’t leave them blank), to explore Google’s Knol & Crunchbase.com, to use a link to YOU on your profiles (versus your company) and to promote your own content and copyright it.  I sent her a tweet to ask her what she thought about tumblr.com and she tweeted back a positive response.

David Naffziger talked about finding typos and brand extensions to capitalize on spelling errors users make when searching for your brand.  He suggested buying adwords for the typos and to try to get typo’d domains back from squatters.  David discussed the workings of adware, which can be used by competitors, affiliates and haters to dilute your brand.  He emphasised catching abuse through LashBack & EmailDatasource.
